In a small pocket of the Pokémon world, the Kanber region is undergoing a phase of economic and urban development unlike ever before. A generally quiet region, Kanber is in the midst of a transformation. How will the people and Pokémon that inhabit it adjust?
Pokémon Tin Version
Pokémon Tin Version
Pokémon Tin is a fangame made in Essentials. It's my love letter to Pokémon as a concept, and is a reflection of everything I hold dear to playing Pokémon.
The game is developed in a Gen 2 aesthetic but incorporates modern Pokémon design decisions that are suitable. This includes essential quality of life features like the Physical/Special split, abilities, so on, so forth.
There is a particular feeling about the Gen 2 games that has always captured me, and that's something I hope I can share through my own lens.
You'll embark on a journey through Kanber, a brand new region. You're a new trainer and are participating in the Gym Circuit, an annual festival where trainers will challenge the 6 appointed Gym Leaders.
Official battle rules in the Kanber region dictate that you must use two Pokémon, meaning that all trainer battles in this game are double battles!
The world is yours though. Along the way you'll make friends, see the world, and make sure that GeoSphere aren't causing too much trouble...
Features
- A whole new region! Kanber is on the brink of rapid urban development, a stark contrast from its quiet roots.
- A custom Pokédex with 360 mons. Each Pokémon in the dex has had its level up moveset revised, giving new tools and opportunities for each Pokémon.
- All trainer fights are in the doubles formats. Wild Pokémon are still singles. :)
- 6 (mostly) Dual-Type Gyms to challenge.
- New regional forms for existing Pokémon. These forms may have new moves and abilities.
- A plot that I would say carries vibes similar to the official games.
- Variety of sidequests across the region.

Artists
Character Designer
- Design, and redesign characters, give them the care they deserve and the coolest designs they can have!
- It would be great to work with someone who can help make trainer overworlds and tiles. Would appreciate someone who has an eye for cleaning up some of my home fixes too.
- Really keen to find an artist who thrives with battle sprites for trainers. Would be working on key characters like Gym Leaders.
- Convert modern item icons into gen 2 style.
- Work on various UI components and collaborate with our coders to implement and upgrade UI.
Dialogue
- I always struggle a bit with dialogue! Keen to work with someone who can help refine and elevate the dialogue in Tin.
- Confident writer to help streamline and synthesise the game's story.
- Help implement flavour text around the world, bringing a bit of whimsy and goofiness to the mundane.
Composers
- Artists keen to lead or contribute to a Gen-2 style soundtrack. Severly lacking in this regard and would be a benefit if you are interested in curating and taking lead on the soundtrack's design.
- Help revamp or replace default essentials sound effects with Gen 2 appropriate ones.
If you feel like you have a skill that's not listed here but would like to contribute to the project, please reach out!
What's next
Tin is progressing steady in the context of it being a hobby project contributed to by volunteers. There are no intentions for a public demo to release, but currently I would estimate about 40% of the main game (disregarding sidequests, etc, etc) is in a playable state. I'd really appreciate your support with this project to help get Tin over the line in the best form it can be.
