Welcome to the celestial land of Tenno! Known for its futuristic technology and advanced space program, the Tenno Region thrives thanks to the ambitions and benevolence of Team Planetary, an organization dedicated to the region's betterment. You start your Pokémon journey in the Tenno Region like many other trainers, but soon you and your childhood friend/rival witness a more sinister side of Team Planetary. They steal property and take Pokémon, all supposedly in the name of saving the region. Can the ends justify the means? As the only witnesses to these heinous acts in a region that idolizes the villains, it’s up to you to stop them while striving to become the Tenno Champion. Blast off on an out-of-this-world journey of astronomical proportions!
sol-version-switch-2-cover-2.png
Pokémon Sol Version is a fan project that aims to create a traditional Pokémon experience using Pokémon Essentials on RPG Maker XP. It is a part of the Cosmic Quest Project, and is technically the "third version" to the hypothetical Luna and Terra Versions. Currently released is a work-in-progress beta test/demo. What's a beta/demo? I explain in detail here. The main campaign is essentially complete and you can play the entire story up until the credits roll, but there is currently no post-game content. That will come in future updates, as discussed here. But, feel free to keep on exploring the region and completing missed optional content until then.

Important Notes
  • This game is in beta and is an unfinished product. While playing, expect to encounter glitches and game crashes. If you do, please report them, as explained in the "Reporting Issues" section below.
  • Due to the chances of encountering a game crash, I recommend saving your game frequently, especially before and after difficult or important battles or after long story events.
  • The game is essentially complete up until the credits roll. That means you can play the entire main story, but there are no post-game elements added yet. Future updates to come.
  • This game is designed to be a traditional and authentic Pokémon experience. It will not contain features common to fan games, such as a speed-up button.
  • This game is designed to play more like the earlier Pokémon games (Gens I through V), rather than the more modern ones. As such, it may require more effort and thought to beat than you might be used to from modern Pokémon games.
  • The game features the classic version of Exp. Share, rather than the modern version which distributes experience among all Pokémon in the party automatically. An Exp. All item, which functions like the modern Exp. Share, does exist in the game, but it is a reward for a side quest that spans the entire region and cannot be obtained until the very end of the game. It is better to think of it as a post-game item.
  • One aspect of real Pokémon games that could not be replicated by this game is interactions with other players. This means it would usually be impossible to evolve Pokémon that require being traded. However, if you want to evolve such a Pokémon, just show a Pokémon that evolves through trade to the woman on the second floor of any Pokémon Center and she'll give you a special item that can evolve these Pokémon instead.
  • Certain aspects of this game may be incompatible with JoiPlay. I have received reports of graphic display issues, random lag, and missing sound effects, all coming from JoiPlay, rather than any specific issue with the game.
  • JoiPlay prevents players from skipping the opening movie. Players using JoiPlay should either delete or rename the folder titled "Movies" within their "Pokémon Sol Version" folder. This will cause the game to automatically skip the movie. This will have to be done every time the game is updated.

Download v0.1.7 Here
(Updated 9/10/25)
No Hotfix Currently Required

If you need help getting things working after downloading from this link, see here for instructions. Once you've downloaded the most recent version, apply the the most recent hotfix (if applicable) as explained below.

Update Instructions: If you've already downloaded an older version of Sol Version and are looking to update, simply delete your outdated "Pokémon Sol Version" folder and download the current version from the above link. Your save data will transfer over automatically.
Hotfix Instructions: If and only if there's a hotfix download link listed below the regular download link, then you'll need to apply the hotfix to Sol Version to play the most up-to-date version. Click the link to download a file called "Game.rgssad" and move that file into your "Pokémon Sol Version" folder. When it asks you if you want to replace the existing file, say yes. Now your game is up to date. You should always try to have to most recent hotfix applied to your game. If you've just installed Sol Version for the first time and a hotfix is available, you should apply the hotfix right away.

Reporting Issues
As this is a work-in-progress beta build of the game, expect to find glitches and other issues. Please report any issues you come across while playing. You can report them here, or send me an email at CosmicQuestProject@gmail.com. As much information as you can provide on the context of the issue, as well as screenshots if possible, is very helpful. If there's an error message, a picture or copy of the exact message would be of great assistance. The game's error log, with a list of all error messages you've received can be located in your file explorer under Users>[Your Name]>AppData>Roaming>Pokémon Sol Version. AppData is only visible if you first click the "View" tab, and then check the box labeled "Hidden Items." From there, you can copy and paste the exact error message, with the newest errors on the bottom. It is my hope that working together we can remove all of the issues that remain undiscovered in this game and we can move it ever closer to a final release.

Known Issues
  • Sometimes when an ability's name displays in battle, it will instead display the name of the Pokémon's other ability. This is a purely visual bug. The proper ability is still activating.
  • Sometimes the game will crash when transitioning from the opening movie to the title screen. If this happens, you can simply relaunch the game and skip the movie to circumvent the crash.
  • A handful of Tenno Pokémon are still a work in progress and do not yet have certain graphics. For a complete list of Pokémon missing some or all of their graphics, see here.
  • Any Mega Evolved Pokémon not listed here is not yet available in the game, even if a Mega Stone is obtainable. The Mega Stone is a placeholder and will not work.

Mystery Gift
Sol Version has a rotation of Mystery Gift distributions. To learn how to unlock the Mystery Gift feature in Sol Version, see here. The currently running Mystery Gift is a special Galapaglobe. This Earth-themed Pokémon has its Hidden Ability, Cold Blooded, as well as Seismic Toss as an event-exclusive move. Only available until October 3rd, 2025!

The arrows on the monitor should show you the order. Either you didn't pay attention, there's a problem with your game, or you're colorblind (no offense whether you're actually colorblind or not). Or you could do what I did and record the order, if you're that forgetful or you get the order messed up (in case you need to heal in between rounds, cuz I'm pretty sure you have to do it all over again when you leave the gym)

Definitely supposed to be showing on the screen. Are you on the current version of Sol Version (v0.1.4) or an older version? That was an issue I had on a previous version, but I fixed it. I'll look into it and see how it's behaving in the current version. Sorry you had to put up with that.

It's been a few days since I've last played the game, but I've noticed that whenever I breed a Tennoan Beldum with Ditto, the result offspring is always a normal Beldum. I believe the same can happen with Tennoan Golett and similar Genderless Pokemon, but I'm not sure, so better safe than sorry. Also a minor bug, but I don't know if which species is supposed to be in an egg is supposed to be visible, but for some reason it also happens. I can't post screenshot here for some reason, and I'm too lazy to insert URL, so yeah. This is a great game so far! Keep it up!

Huh. There's likely an aspect of Regional Variants that I didn't properly replicate when I was making Tennoan Forms, so they lost their ability to breed true. I'll look into that, so thanks for the report.

And thanks for reporting the Pokémon in the egg being visible as well, that seems to be an unintended behavior caused by the plugin I use to animate Pokémon sprites when they enter battle.

Hello, I would need 2 pieces of information if possible
where can you find thunderstone and where can you find fossils? Thanks in advance.

The Thunderstone can be found in Starcore City once you've obtained the Gravi-Scope. The Saber and Tusk Fossils can be found at Frostover Island. Other fossils are available in Mt. Corona once you get Waterfall.

Speaking of fossils, can we get the other fakemon fossil that we didn't get from the scientist at Frostover Island through mining? If so, I assume it's quite rare?
Also, not to rush things, sound impatient or whatever, but do you have a specific date/time in mind as to when you'll release the next version or are you gonna take your time and release it as soon as it's done? If it's the latter, good for you. After all, as Shigeru Miyamoto once said, a delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad

Is there any documents on for this game like the pokemon locations? I have my team all planned out just want Pokemon locations

Currently it is not possible to obtain the opposite fossil, but I'll probably either make a way to obtain it in post-game or give both fossils out as Mystery Gifts at some point. It's a bit of a strange circumstance, because a regular Pokémon game would typically lock you into only having one or the other, but a regular Pokémon game would also allow you to trade someone else for the other. The same goes for the other choices you make in the game as well (such as picking either the Ninja Scrolls or the Samurai Helmet to evolve either Ninjato or Slashogun).

No specific plans on the next update yet. I'm trying to figure out how those are going work from this point on. So far, I've been putting out updates as I have new content to put out or have accumulated enough bug fixes to justify it, but I think at this point I'm running out of content to add, and there have been less and less issue reports as more and more of the obvious problems have been taken care of. Don't hold me to this, but I'm thinking I'll do a glitch-fix update sometime in the next few days, and after that updates will become more scarce than they've been so far.

Is there any documents on for this game like the pokemon locations? I have my team all planned out just want Pokemon locations

Yeah, the Tenno Region page on my website lists every location in the game, as well as the Pokémon that can be found there. Pokémon are sorted by encounter type, and then ordered from most to least common.

v0.1.5 Update

This update doesn't really bring anything new to the game, but I had a handful of bug fixes and modifications I wanted to get out sooner rather than later.

On that note, it's worth discussing the fact that from this point on, updates for Sol Version will start slowing down. So far, we've been averaging a little less than one update a week, but there's been lots of bugs that needed fixing, and I've had several content additions to make. But with more and more of the easy to find bugs and issues getting fixed, reports of them are coming in less and less, giving me less reasons to make updates. Throw in the fact that I don't have much more in the way of content to add until the big post-game update, and there's really not going to be as much of a reason for frequent updates going forward.

From this point on, expect less updates in general. Updates will occur either when issues big enough to need relatively quick fixing pop up, I come up with a new idea for main game content, or I have new sprites to add to the game.

Changelog:
  • Properly added new Tenno move and ability pools to all the non-Tenno Fossil Pokémon, which can be obtained once the player gets Waterfall, but I had forgotten to update them, as they aren't in the Tenno Dex.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause the player's team to not be returned to them after a Sky Battle, if the battle was lost.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed certain HMs to be used to be used in the field without the proper gym badge.
  • Changed the location of the Mighty Trainer in Frostover Island so that she can be battled before getting access to Strength. That was an unintended oversight on my part.
  • Adjusted the difficulty of level 3 of Kanaveral Gym puzzle to make it easier.
  • Added an option to see the controls for the Kanaveral Gym puzzle.
  • Reduced the distance at which the Mega Sludge can spot the player in the Den of Mega Evolution.
  • Made it so the Mega Sludge doesn't appear when returning to the Den of Mega Evolution after completion.
  • Fixed a bug with breeding Tennoan Forms that would cause the regular forms to hatch from eggs instead of the Tennoan Forms.
  • Repaired the timer on the Fishing Tourney so the tourney actually ends when it runs out.
  • Fixed a glitch with the Fishing Tourney that caused the player to not keep the captured Pokémon.
  • Fixed some unintended behavior in the Spirit Tower if you have a Pokémon that naturally knows Terrain Trek through level up before obtaining the Terrain Trek HM.
  • Moved the Youngster looking at the Grassy Terrain in Sol Forest so that he won't block the player from dismounting their Pokémon, causing unintended behaviors.
  • Fixed an issue that would result in an error message if Shamoon used Lunatic Dance under certain conditions.
  • Fixed an issue that would result in an error message that would occur when battling a trainer using a Pokémon knowing Tinker, such as Klink, a Pokémon knowing Tainted Milk, such as Miltaint, a Pokémon knowing Photovoltaic Charge, such as Heliophosaur, or a Pokémon knowing Polarize, such as Thundroll.
  • Fixed several issues relating to Thunderstorm and its interaction with certain abilities.
  • Fixed some broken tiles in Aster Town that would cause unintended interactions.
  • Fixed a visual glitch that would cause the sprite of an egg to turn into that of the Pokémon inside if the egg's summary was viewed.
  • Made it so that Braydon no longer erroneously appears in the Asteroid Chamber when returning there after getting Waterfall.
  • Fixed an issue that had the map displaying the incorrect position for the player while in Penum City.
  • Fixed the Fly landing location for Starside City so that you land directly in front of the Pokémon Center, instead of one space forward from that.
  • Repaired various collision issues across the region, which would allow players to walk or surf in places they shouldn't be allowed to.
  • Corrected various typos and grammar issues.

Full Moon!

Something you also might be interested in is the fact that tonight and tomorrow night (different time zones may vary) are considered to be full moon nights in Sol Version. That means there's a couple of things you can do which can only be done once per month.

Full Moon Weather:
Anywhere you travel outdoors during the night that doesn't already have a weather condition of its own will have Full Moon weather automatically trigger in any battle.

Shamoon:
Shamoon will be wearing Full Moon Mask, arguably its most powerful form, and its signature move, Lunatic Dance, will deal more damage than it will during any other lunar phase, with the added bonus of changing the weather to Full Moon.

Ursaluna:
Ursaluna was just added to the game, and this is your first chance to evolve one yourself. All you need to do is evolve the special Teddiursa you got from the "Mudlines" side quest into Ursaring, and then give it the Peat Block item during the night, and you'll have your very own Ursaluna.

The Lunar Shrine:
Rumor has it there's a special surprise waiting for anyone visiting the Lunar Shrine in Route 8 during the night of a full moon.

And, for future reference, you can check in-game what the current lunar phase is by talking to the Astronomer standing at the base of Gazer Hill in Opti City.

Sorry for the inconvenience everyone, Sol Version's download is currently unavailable. MediaFire, the website I use to distribute Sol Version has taken down the download link due to "copyright claims." I'm currently investigating exactly what this means for Sol Version, and what my options are. I'll provide updates on the situation, if any, as they come. Hopefully this is just a small hiccup.

If anyone with experience distributing fan games happens to be reading this, I'd love to know if this is something MediaFire is known to do proactively, or if this means someone representing The Pokémon Company or Nintendo has actively requested my download be removed. Those two things have very different meanings and very different impacts on how I should move forward.

And we're back. A new download link (now using MEGA instead of MediaFire) is available in the original post. Let's cross our fingers that this one works out.

MediaFire sometimes takes down stuff they notice that is a copyright issue. If it were TPC or Nintendo, you would probably be directly notified with a DMCA and/or C&D

Thanks for the info, that helps ease my mind.

It's been brought to my attention that MEGA doesn't work well as a download site in some countries, I'm trying Google Drive instead. The link in the original post has been updated. If you've already downloaded v0.1.5 on MediaFire or MEGA, there's no reason to download again now. However, when the next update or hotfix does arrive, the update checker in the game will direct you to incorrect webpage if you didn't download off of Google, so you'll need to manually use the download link instead.

what level does Hiloptile learns Photovoltaic Charge i already have sun stone and i need to know and i did left it in daycare to level up fast to catch up with rest of my team

what level does Hiloptile learns Photovoltaic Charge i already have sun stone and i need to know and i did left it in daycare to level up fast to catch up with rest of my team

Helioptile does not learn Photovoltaic Charge. Heliolisk, however, learns it at level 40, so you'll need to evolve it first.

Does anyone know where I can find a shiny stone? My Calumba evolution is long overdue.

Also how do I start to complete the food request? Is the quest post game? Thank you!!
