Had this issue until I redownloaded the game and everything was fine. No issues since. Saves are stored elsewhere so redownloading game won't cause you to lose them.

Pretty rare. I'd know because I definitely grinded for one there as well. I had the best luck in the small room at the end once you go down the ladder with the exit immediately to the south of you. Never saw one in any other part of the cave, but got a handful there.

In my experience, it can be anywhere between 20-50 wild encounters. Can vary wildly so it will take some patience, but at least you won't need to catch random ones anymore.
